Over the summer, I organized an empanadas crawl in West L.A. We checked out 4 spots but my favorite was Empandas Place on Sawtelle.
We had started earlier in the day and by the time we hit the last stop, it was 3:40 p.m. and the place was packed! How could this be? Is this place really that wonderful?
Well yes, yes, it is.
At $2.99 an empanada, it seemed a bit expensive but the reality was the empanadas are HUGE! I probably would have been happy just eating one and maybe getting a side salad.
But no, I got four. I loved that they can recognize what type of empanada it is just based on how they fold the edges. I got the beef, ham and cheese, spinach and criolla (beef and raisin).
Now, I know empanadas should be baked but I swear these are fried and are fantastic that way. My favorites were definitely the beef and criolla. They have a lot of meat options and just as many vegetarian options. I heard people loved the corn.
I’m definitely coming back to this place and besides the empanadas, I’m going to try the milanesa sandwich.
