Watermark or No Watermark
Pho at Treasure Island in Vegas
In my ongoing quest to be an interesting and better blogger, I am having a watermark or no watermark debate.
I don’t like it. I think it looks kind of weird. I am distracted by it.
On the other hand, I can see why bloggers put a watermark on their photos. They don’t want anyone stealing their pictures and possibly profiting from them.
Also, Gastronomnom brings up a good point it’s viral marketing and branding.
I guess it’s not good enough to assume people know I took the pictures (for the most part).
Also, I’m playing around with editing software. I don’t have photoshop so I’m using the software that came with my camera. Then I’m using flickr’s editing software. Which photo (please ignore the watermark) looks better?
Oh? How was the noodles?
Not great and rather expensive. But you’re in Vegas and it was probably a nice change from the hearty buffets.

I like the bottom picture, and I don’t mind the watermark. I think it’s pretty cool, even.

Thanks!! Yeah, I think I like the bottom pic better in terms of the program to edit pics. That came with my camera though I can do the watermark with the flickr program.

Let me clarify on the viral marketing and branding point. I also put my photos on FB and have had various people share them on their profiles or other peoples profiles. Where they go from there, who knows. But I watermark my photos and include my blog address discretely. Not so large that it hits you in the face but, if you want to know where to find my blog, you can. I also share some on yelp and it’s the same point. It leads people back to my blog. Same too with other bloggers using pics. Most people are good with credit but this is inbuilt.

Oh, it’s not that I don’t want my friends to grab pics if they’re in them or whatnot. I’m talking specifically just pics I’ll be using on the blog. So, obviously if people take from my FB page, it’s fine.
Considering how some people have reacted from this issue, I don’t want to use their pictures even if they gave permission. At least in a blog entry. What I haven’t decided is how I really feel about people (possibly) stealing my pics. I absolutely don’t want my pics to end up somewhere I haven’t given permission. As I said in the post, possibly with that person gaining something from that illicitly gained photo.
