San Diego: Noodles and Egg Rolls at Pho Van
It seems I visit a new (to me) pho shop about once a year in San Diego. This time around, I hit up Pho Van which is not too far from Pho Hoa. We were staying at the Lafayette again and randomly happened upon Pho Van on our way to Pho Hoa.
I got my usual order to test the waters; an order of egg rolls and pho dac biet.
The egg rolls were hot and crispy. They reminded me of the ones at my local pho shop but I did wish they included marinated carrots and daikon, maybe some cucumber to roll up with the lettuce. I also liked the cilantro but could have went with mint as well.
Then came the noodles. I pretty much subsist on noodle soups, tacos and wings (who wants to marry me?) so this was welcome. There was plenty of tripe in this soup but tendon was a little bit harder to find. The noodles were perfect, not clumpy and perfectly cooked. My only gripes were the onions were cut somewhat haphazardly with huge pieces and chunks floating through the bowl. I somehow despite the gnawing hunger I had could not finish the bowl.
If I was in the area again, I’d probably hit up Pho Hoa over this shop though.
