The Minty’s Adventures: DTLA including The Broad Museum, Angels Flight, Grand Central Market
This year I decided to make a dent in my “things I want to do in Los Angeles” list. First up is Angels Flight which I checked out after a visit to the Broad Museum.
The Broad has been open for a couple of years now. They’re home of a tightly curated selection of modern art that I usually can breeze through in about an hour. If you want to do another dose of art, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is across the street. However, I decided to hit up the little railway that connects Grand Avenue and Hill Street.
Angels Flight is only $1 one way or fifty cents if you have an LA Metro TAP card. We took it from the top of Grand to Hill. It was a short but bumpy ride.
For most of my life it was in storage. It was actually in another location. It reopened across the street from Grand Central Market a couple of decades ago but then had to be shut down for a few years after an accident. Then it finally reopened but was shuttered once again. That shut down was much shorter. So, Angels Flight was not really a thing I sought out. But I will in the future if I want to connect between those two hilly streets.
As mentioned, Angels Flight is across the street from Grand Central Market. I have written about many of the vendors there. Some favorites are Sticky Rice, Lucky Bird, Sarita’s Pupusas, Sari Sari Store, Knead + Co Pasta, Madcapra, Wexler’s Deli and so many more!
After our trip down the hill, we naturally had to stop in for a snack at GCM. We opted for some fresh oysters from The Oyster Gourmet.
I always love sitting at their counter. If you love steampunk like I do, you’ll understand why. The little hut has panels that open up like an upside down flower.
We didn’t have any wine this time because opted to head back up the hill for drinks at Otium. And yes, you can take Angels Flight going up the hill, too.

I loved the Baroo drink. It reminded me of a shandy though that could be because it was in a beer glass. It’s a mix of rye and Aperol along with a slightly fizzy passionfruit shrub.

I also tired the Sotto drink. And now sadly, Sotto just closed so this is so bittersweet. The memory lives on a little further in this julep style drink. And just because it’s so good, we also had the Salt’s Cure.
