Burbank: Porto’s Bakery
I really can’t remember the first time I had Porto’s. It’s been part of my food language as far back as I can remember. There would always be something from Porto’s at house parties. The guava and cheese pastry is my ultimate favorite thing there but I also have a fondness of their potato balls.
I like the Burbank location because it’s not as busy as the Glendale one. Oh sure, it gets packed and the lines can seem daunting but they move quickly. I haven’t settled on a favorite sandwich yet. Porto’s makes an okay Media Noche but add ham croquettes and suddenly you have something entirely special- the Media Noche Preparada. It’s like adding a nice an extra layer of porky love to an already pork-tastic sandwich.
The Media Noche has slow roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, mustard and mayo on a sweet roll. Add those ground ham croquettes and now we’re talking! I did think I should have opted for no mayo since I added those lovely fried croquettes.

Are you following me? That’s almost the same thing I had on Saturday, except I had the Cubano instead of the Medianoche (very close though). I washed it down with a can of Materva (yerba mate soda) – how about you?
