San Diego: Sandwiches at Rare Form
The opening event for this last Bartenders Weekend in San Diego was held at Rare Form, a studious looking bar with actual reading lamps on the communal tables. We decided to get some food while kicking off the event. My friend ordered the Cuban sandwich. I love a good Cubano and his gets points for having good mustard and meat.
I got the eponymous Rare Form which is a Reuben. I thought it was great. I loved the oodles of sauerkraut, tender corned beef and melted cheese. I thought about swapping my other half for half a Cubano but decided to eat my entire sandwich since I loved it so much. With the perfect crunch pickle and a handful of chips, I thought we were done.
Then the chorizo balls showed up. Ahhh, the plating is so fine dining! It somewhat went against the grain of the sandwiches’ plating but I didn’t care. These warm chorizo balls were amazing. I’d go back alone for this dish.
Sadly the bar upstairs, Fair Weather, was ironically rained out so we continued our party downstairs.
