Woodland Hills: Great India Cafe

Happily we discovered Great India Cafe was open later after we got out of a movie. We had been driving up and down Ventura before we spotted the Indian restaurant. Yes, even though we could have used an electronic means to figure out what was open, sometimes we like to drive around to see what looks good.

Great India Cafe does have a cocktails list but I disregarded it in favor of a good ol’ mango lassi. I hadn’t had one of those in a while. Like some spots doing boozy horchata, I would like see Indian restaurants add booze to these drinks instead of trying to make cocktails from mixes.

My best friend always gets the lamb korma and I usually get the shrimp saag. I really struggled to break out of my Indian food comfort zone so I got us the cauliflower stuffed bread.

It looked and smelled amazing but it actually lacked seasoning. Fortunately, it comes with a great sauce.

And then I went back to my shrimp saag. I had never been to Great India Cafe before but I found it comparable to other Indian spots in the area. I liked how thick the spinach curry was. My friend’s lamb was also quite good. But I like to feel virtuous by eating a mainly veg dish.

We also enjoyed garlic naan.

And the veggie birayni was very nice. Sometimes I find Indian rice to be an afterthought but this rice was flavorful and not dried out at all. I didn’t even need the raita (yogurt sauce) to mix in.

Great India Cafe seems to do better delivery service in the evening but I wouldn’t mind eating there again. And maybe I’ll try something different next time.
