DTLA: Lunch at Eggslut
The food truck Eggslut has opened a brick and mortar counter at Grand Central Market. With their cute neon sign, the breakfast and lunch counter faces the Broadway side of GCM. Eggslut offers breakfast all day and has lunch as well. I opted to get the Slut from the breakfast menu and the egg salad sandwich from the lunch menu. A friend ordered their breakfast sandwich and though we both really wanted to also get the steak and eggs, we held off. Always give yourself something to look forward to next time!
My friend fell hard for his breakfast sandwich of maple sausage, cheese and egg. The small-ish sandwich is perfect for breakfast but we suspect hash browns or tater tots will make this breakfast even better.
Eggslut is of course, a cutesy name but can the same be said of their boldly named “The Slut?” It’s a tiny jar of potato puree, egg and a bit of salt and chopped up chives. You’re supposed to mix it all up and eat with the accompanying toast.
I just ate the mixed up Slut on its own. It’s so rich and creamy. I did wonder about my cholesterol but hey, I have always enjoyed low cholesterol so bring on the eggs!
I had to order the egg salad to compare to my favorite egg salad sandwich at Europane. It doesn’t come close. Served on a bun, the egg salad was creamy though not really from too much mayo. It actually didn’t taste too rich. I would have liked big chunks of chopped up egg. And since we were going to go new-fangled on this egg salad, I’d like something crunchy. Perhaps diced up celery? Or sunflower seeds or pine nuts would work as well.
Yes, the egg salad did taste good but as more and more steak and eggs came out, I started plotting when exactly next time will be.
