Mid-City: New Spring Cocktails at Roger Room
Roger Room has introduced 5 new Spring cocktails that will be available through the summer. Each play off the theme of “smoke and fire.”
One of my favorite type of drinks is a sour with egg white. Roger Room has a twist on a whiskey sour with apricot liqueur. They’re known for their playful bitters designs. Called On the Make, the drink emphasizes positive energy with a simple YES. This also plays on the word roger which means yes.
On the Make – Bulleit Rye, Apricot Liqueur, Egg White, Peach Bitters
Another playful drink is the Lady Boy. It’s a bit tiki with rum and tropical juices. But it’s also sophisticated with smokey flavors. This is a wonderful sipper.
Lady Boy -House-smoked Plantation Rum, Mango nectar, Pineapple Juice, Cherry Heering, Hickory
If stirred cocktails are more your speed, go for the Kubla Kahn #2. The triple-boozy drink is particularly interesting for drink nerds with a touch of both calvados and creme de menthe. The old tom gin was an excellent choice as the base since it’s a softer, sweeter gin.
Kubla Kahn #2– Old Tom Gin, Calvados, Crème de Menthe, Angostura Bitters
We can’t leave Roger Room without a drink that doesn’t come garnished with a playful monkey. This one holds a cherry with the Ricky Jay, a lavender-infused creation that wasn’t too sweet. If Roger Room had a patio, this would be my patio drink. Instead, I’d happily drink this at the bar or ensconced in a cushy booth.
Ricky Jay -Lavender-infused Tanqueray Gin, Crushed Blueberries, Lime Juice, Club Soda
A cognac cocktail with a couple of my favorite ingredients? Sign me up! This stirred drink features one of my favorite amari, Amaro Averna and also Chartreuse giving it an even more herbal quality. Backed by cognac, it’s a stiff drink. Manhattan lovers should give this one a whirl for a change of pace.
Big Shot – Pierre Ferrand Cognac, Amaro Averna, Rosemary, Flamed Chartreuse
