Las Vegas: Snacks and Drinks at Flour and Barley
I usually start with a house drink but opted to try the Flour and Barley Boulevardier. It was most welcome after a rather bumpy flight into town.
We ordered a number of bar snacks including the calamari fritti, garlic-cheese bread and Buffalo wings. I was thinking about a pizza too but knew I was going to have another late night “snack” (it is Vegas, after all) at some point.
I probably wouldn’t have ordered the garlic cheese bread on my own but my friend wanted to try it. Oh, it’s a must have if you like garlic bread sticks and garlic toast. It’s like the two combined to make a garlic cheese bread baby.
I do know one thing I must always order though- wings! The buffalo wings at Flour and Barley are definitely on top of my bar food list. Despite the sauce, the wings are still crispy with juicy meat. Dunk ’em into the bleu cheese and you’re all set.
I was very curious to try the Five Families as the drink seemed to contain ingredients that didn’t quite work together (much like the actual Five Families? Oh a mob joke in Vegas… you don’t say!). Anyhoo… it was very refreshing. I actually loved the grenadine in this and I’m not normally a grenadine fan, thinking it is the ingredient that drives me crazy about tiki drinks (but I digress). Fernet-Branca and rye gives it some backbone while it’s smoothed out by the falernum.
I really enjoyed Flour and Barley. It didn’t feel like a hotel cafe and seemed like a spot locals and tourists alike could get a good drink.
