DTLA: Lunch Specials at The Briks
The Briks in Downtown Los Angeles serves up a curious package of goodies called a brik. It’s a North African pastry stuffed with various fillings and deep fried. I checked out The Briks recently for lunch and decided to try the lunch special. The brik was served with a small salad for a mere $11. It also comes with a drink. This is one of those miraculous lunches in DTLA that doesn’t cost $20 a pop. Other lunch specials include sandwiches and wraps.
My lunch special came with the Caesar Chavez salad which I found a little bit too salty from the very fresh cotija cheese.
While I was intrigued by the Tony Montana brik with lechon, I thought I’d like the Cholo since it has chorizo. Plus all the briks have an egg in them. Once I cut into the Cholo, these lovely egg yolk mingled with the cheese and sauce creating an umami bomb.
The other brik options include seafood, vegetarian and an interesting one with not just duck but a duck egg. The Briks also have cocas which are flatbreads. At dinner, there are larger plates. I’d try the lamb shank or pork belly pibil.
