LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade Returns Saturday, September 12
LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade, the all-star food festival and charity event, returns Saturday, September 12. Tickets are now on sale for one of my favorite food fests.
Last year, Alex’s Lemonade made the switch from Culver City to UCLA. This year it returns to the campus at Royce quad area.
There were many wonderful bites last year but here are some of my favorites including the pasta from Chef Bruce Kalman representing Union. I’m so looking forward to his new pasta bar at Grand Central Market as well. Until then, get over to Alex’s Lemonade.
Be on the look out for members of the LA Cocktail Community slinging drinks. It’s always fun to see Christiaan Rollich representing Luques, AOC, Tavern and spy the antics of Marcos Tello and Aidan Demarest. I’m also looking forward to drinks from the boys at The Varnish, The Corner Door with Beau du Bois and Jeremy Lake representing Ascendant Spirits.
In fact, we’ll be well watered between the wine and cocktails!
I’m heading to New Orleans soon and will hopefully check out one of Chef Donald Link’s places. Maybe Cochon or Herbsaint. But if you can’t get to NOLA, him coming to LA for Alex’s Lemonade is the next best thing. His boudin last year was fantastic.
Since I didn’t get the pizza from Pizza Bianco the year before, I made sure I went straight to this booth from Phoenix right away. The Rosa pizza was the best. They will be at this year’s event again so get there early.
One of my favorite bites last year was the goat meat ball from Chef Steve Samson at Sotto. Goat is definitely one of my favorite meats just after pork. And of course I love meat balls.
I’m embarrassed to say I still haven’t made it over to either Troi Mec or Petit Trois. Chef Ludo gave me a baleful stare when I admitted as such but luckily I did get to try his avocado sushi rice with salt cod cream.
Again, this is another booth I didn’t get to try the year before so I was lucky I got to it early enough to snag a plate.
Every time I encounter Chef David LeFevre, I’m reminded just how far Manhattan Beach is but really, it’s not that far for his fab food at Fishing with Dynamite and MB Post. I still haven’t been to his new steak house, the Arthur J but hope to soon. Until then, I have Alex’s Lemonade in September!
As I walked by the Night + Market booth, Chef Kris Yenbamroong waved me over. He made sure I got his fried chicken sandwich which is occasionally available at the restaurants but I hadn’t tried it yet. Oh my word, fried chicken skin… extra pieces all piled on moist fried chicken. Yeah, baby! Does this mean I’m telling you to stop by the booth? No, I want all the bites to myself. Heehee.
See you in September!
