Brentwood: BBQ, Blues & Brews at Baltaire
Baltaire in Brentwood will begin a special Monday night series called BBQ, Blues and Brews starting Monday, April 18. The new recurring event in the bar and lounge features live blues, craft beer, whiskey flights and a la carte BBQ men from Executive Chef Travis Strickland.
I was invited for brunch but also got a sneak peek of the BBQ menu. We had the deviled eggs to start. These would normally have Benton ham but they’re just as good without the ham. It may be trendy to have deviled eggs but you can’t have a BBQ (or what I was thinking- indoor picnic!) without deviled eggs.
We did try the ham with the biscuits. I quickly made myself a mini sandwich with the flaky biscuits and wondeful grainy mustard.
I have a love/hate relationship with pimento cheese. I didn’t grow up in the South but I love pretty much all Southern food except pimento cheese puzzles me. I am thankful Chef Travis’ version was flavorful without being too heavy. We had the pimento cheese with crostini and the butter pickles were great.
My favorite was the jalepeno corn bread with actual corn kernels. Plus the rich bourbon-pecan butter was fabulous.
Check out Monday nights at Baltaire with live blues and classy BBQ bites. And if beer or whiskey flights aren’t your thing, I’d get the bourbon bramble. It’s a nice cocktail to pair with the food.
