Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival Returns August 22-26 to DTLA and Santa Monica
Los Angeles Food and Wine returns August 22 through 26 to various locations including Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica.
LAFW kicks off with dinners on Wednesday, August 22. In the last few years, modern Filipino food has been grabbing the headlines as the next big food trend. However, with the large Filipino-American population in Los Angeles, I feel it makes sense to showcase the chefs really shaking things up in LA who just so happen to be Filipino-American.
There’s a dinner at LASA, with chefs Chad Valencia (LASA) and Jon Yao Kato. I’m eyeing the one at Big Boi on Sawtelle in West LA with chefs Alvin Cailan (Egglsut) and Barb Batiste (B-Sweet). And don’t miss Tesse, the brand new French restaurant featuring chefs Raphael Francois and Sally Camacho-Mueller.
On Thursday, the 23rd, Ultimate Bites of LA hits Grand Avenue in DTLA with host chefs Alvin Cailan and Antonia Lofaso who recently opened Dama in DTLA’s fashion district.
Friday, the 24th brings the Power Lunch series with various lunches around town. I’m excited by chef Aaron Sanchez cooking with Antonia Lofaso at Dama.
Check out the other Power Lunches including chef Casey Lane cooking with Joey Elenterio with special guest Michael Passmore at Breva.
That Friday night comes HEAT on the Street with chefs Aaron Sanchez, Robert Irvine, Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken. Sounds like a spicy good time!
Then the weekend brings three more tasting events including the popular ones at the Santa Monica’s Barker Hanger on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Saturday night wraps up the Live on Grand Avenue tastings with chef Curtis Stone along with Tiffani Thissen. DJ Questlove, a LAFW favorite, performs that evening.
