DTLA: Lunch at Mex Peru Gipsy

ceviche

I’m always looking for more lunch spots in Downtown Los Angeles. I do eye every little shack I see. Could it be good?

I first spotted Mex Peru Gipsy while on my way to Dama. It was closed at night but I headed back one day for lunch. I found out later that Mex Peru Gipsy has been around decades which is quite amazing since the Fashion and Produce districts in DTLA is just revitalizing.

I shared the mixed ceviche with my lunch partner. It was quite hearty!

chicken lomo saltado

She doesn’t eat red meat so she asked if she could have the lomo saltado with chicken which Mex Peru Gipsy happily made to order.

chaufa

I wanted chaufa, the Peruvian take on Chinese fried rice. I got mine with shrimp.

We enjoyed all the Peruvian dishes. Perhaps next time I’ll try the Mexican food. However, there is a super secret Gipsy menu! The owner said next time we’ll have to ask for the secret menu. I thought maybe I’d like the spicy pork dish. He mentioned Romanians liked to come by the restaurant and order from the Gipsy menu.
