Happy Hour: Roy’s Downtown

1988 Martini

My good friend, the Vixen, and I have been checking out happy hours in Downtown Los Angeles the last year and half. She recently decided to start a new blog, L.A. Happy Hours.

On Friday, we went to  Roy’s which has happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. called Aloha Hour. For most office workers, this is somewhat hard to get to so I had to hustle down there because I wanted to try their $5 cocktails and $5 appetizers. I tried  two drinks and nearly all their food. They were out of the Wagyu sliders.

What’s great about their happy hour is their entire cocktail menu is discounted to $5. So even though most of the appetizers were three a dish (which at $5 isn’t super cheap), drinks are worth it. Well, that is if you can find a non-sweet drink. My first drink, the Pineapple Ginger Mojito sounded refreshing but though there was no coconut whatsoever on the ingredients list, it was very heavily coconut-vanilla. Huh?

After conferring with the server, I chose the Lychee Caiprihina which was nice and light. It would be quite a feat to try all their cocktails during the limited hours of 4:30 to 6:30 but there are 5 days a week!

The best appetizers were the chicken cups with the butter lettuce. That was great after eating all the fried and buttery stuff. But don’t get me wrong, we happily ordered two orders of the crunchy golden lobster potstickers!
