Hope for Firefighters

On Thursday, I attended Hope for Firefighters, an event benefiting Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association’s Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen’s Fund. The event was appropriately on Hope Street in Downtown Los Angeles.

Last year, the event raised over $100,000 and drew thousands of people.

The event featured food from over 25 fire stations, live music, games and demonstrations. I loved seeing all the different stations’ offerings including shrimp tacos, chicken tacos, tamales, Texas lemonade but I was there for the BBQ.

The pulled pork sammie definitely hit the spot.

tri-tip sandwich

The tri-tip was so tender and juicy!

We had a banana date shake for dessert. Yummy!

I really enjoyed seeing all the different converted grills. This firefighter was toasting tortillas on that huge grill!

Wilshire the Fire Dog

I had a celebrity sighting- Wilshire the Fire Dog! He was adopted by a firehouse in 2006 and named after the busy street the firehouse was on.

I also took a fun video of people racing to put on firefighter gear and “rescuing someone.”

It was such a fun event. I can’t wait to go again next year.
