Pasadena Intelligentsia: Love a Latte
I’m not sure what I love more. The idea that even I, a non-coffee drinker, can love the occasional cuppa or the foam art. Perhaps there’s a reason why I drink lattes at Intelligentsia. I like see these notes of love.
The Pasadena branch of Intelligentsia opened a few short weeks ago and already it’s a sensation. This one in the heart of Old Town Pasadena is replete with hipsters, students (notably of the Caltech variety) and the few curious bean fanatics. I went in because I’m a completist of sorts and I’ve been to the Venice and Silver Lake branches and it was time to conquer Pasadena.
While there, I chatted with the barista about their Chicago roots (I’m going next month and wanted to make sure I go to the original store).
I also wanted a bit of a sweet nibble after happy hour at Dish. These macarons from Bottega Louie immediately attracted me. The blue one, the English Breakfast, was my favorite.
This location differs from the Venice and Silver Lake locations by serving food from Heirloom LA and according to their website, they serve beer and wine. What what? Booze? Intelligentsia might have to open a real bar with cocktails if they’re going the way of alcohol.
