Pasadena: Lunch at Daisy Mint
I often get asked what is my favorite restaurant which is a very difficult question for me to answer. Not because there aren’t a lot of great restaurants, in fact it’s quite the opposite. I end up having to talk about my favorites by cuisine, price range and area. In Pasadena, Daisy Mint is my favorite Thai (fusion) restaurant. I have explained all this before in this post.
I stopped by last week for lunch hoping they’d have their pollack wraps. They did! But they looked a bit different to me. I don’t recall the little strips of red bell pepper before. In any case, it was a pretty display, really quite the feat to bring the wraps over without tipping over the precariously placed bell pepper pieces. The spiced rice is always so right.
My friend had her usual pad see eu. I still marvel how Daisy Mint gets me to eat their flat rice noodles, one of my least favorite noodles. I tend to think the flavor doesn’t coat each strand at other places but they magically do here.
The lunch specials include the Daisy ribs, a dry-rubbed half-rack of ribs. The meat just falls off the bone when you barely wave your fork towards your plate. I don’t even need the sauce, a piquant Thai sweet chili sauce, but sometimes I might dab some on. It’s a pretty great deal since the ribs are a couple bucks off the dinner price.
