West Hollywood: Rosa Mexicano
I was invited to check out the new Rosa Mexicano in West Hollywood as a possible venue for an upcoming event. I have been to the location at LA Live and I have to say I like the WeHo one more because it seems more spacious with a large bar and lounge and a private back room that would be ideal for an event.
The sangria de Rosa Mexicano comes in individual pitchers (so cute!) or a larger one to share. The fruit; cucumbers, pineapple and apples were great.
Rosa Mexicano sent out a lovely crab amuse bouche.
The gay boyfriend had the frozen pomegranate margarita which he pronounced delish. It is one of the most popular items of the restaurant, second only to the tableside guacamole. Our guacamole server said he felt like “Julia Child” when I filmed this vid:
We just kept eating and eating this guacamole. I noticed other tables were getting larger bowls and then another order. Wow, this guacamole is really popular.
Because we are gluttons we also ordered the mushroom and huitalacoche queson fundito. I’m all about mushrooms and love huitalacoche (aka corn “smut”). The cheese dip was even better with their great tortillas.
We split the budin de tortilla (Chicken tortilla pie) which came with rice and black beans. We were pretty amazed by the black beans as it wasn’t refried nor pinto beans but smoothly mashed black beans.
The cocktails were revamped by Dave Kaplan and Alex Day of Death & Co in New York who also redid the cocktails for my fave Bar | Kitchen. Although I didn’t try any this night, a few stirred cocktails such as the La Pera Noble (Casa Noble organic silver tequila, bianco vermouth, pear brandy cinnamon simple syrup) and La Antigua (Tanteo chocolate-infused tequila, bitters, orange twist) sounded interesting.
We were too full for dessert so we called it a night as I thought about the bar space again. Time to go back for cocktails.
