Portland: Burnside Brewing Company
Before we flew out of Portland, we made one last happy hour at Burnside Brewing Company. We had done an earlier happy hour across town at Clyde Common but we didn’t have any food. And if there was one thing I didn’t have during Portland Cocktail Week, it was beer. Well, other than beer cocktails.
I got a cider and tasted some of H.C.’s beers. The oyster strong ale made with actual Hama Hama oyster liquor was probably the most unusual. Considering I love oysters and Chinese oyster sauce, I don’t know if I was turned off this wasn’t a vegetarian beer or its actual slightly smokey taste.
Considering we had just toured three food carts pods, I was surprised I wanted a little snack. Then I thought I’d completely miss dinner being on a plane so I ended up ordering the pickle plate and brat burger on a pretzel roll.
H.C. got the Autumn Salad with roasted butternut, acorn and pumpkin squashes, black quinoa, preserved tomato and champagne-dijon vinaigrette. We were happy with our choices. After eating so many pickled veggies, the sauerkraut on the brat burger was almost too much. Almost. I love tart things.
If I ever stay at the Jupiter or near there again, this would definitely be a great place to check out for lunch or happy hour. They have a ton of patio seating and I liked seating at the bar to watch the kitchen.
