Scottsdale: Cafe ZuZu
After my linner (lunch + dinner) at Big Earl’s BBQ, I headed over to the Hotel Valley Ho to get ready for Arizona Cocktail Week. I was a bit early so I decided to have a drink at Cafe Zuzu which turned out to be exactly what everyone else was doing. I ordered a Negroni and the anxious bartender told me they had a run on Campari. Apparently she just had 18 orders for a Negroni. Luckily for me, they had more Campari in the back.
The next day, I decided to get the Denver Omelette. I was surprised that the “ham” was actually a delicious roasted pork that reminded me of al pastor. I just wish there was more of it. But the omelette was fluffy and the eggs were just what I needed. Eggs are apparently good after a night of drinking.
Eggs – Because eggs contain cysteine, which breaks down acetaldehyde in the body, eating eggs the morning after a drinking binge could help remove the hangover-causing alcohol metobolite toxin from the body. – source
I also believe in the power of hydration and a little caffeine. You bet I had several tall ones. Of iced tea, that is. Cafe ZuZu will also put the rest in a to-go cup and may refill if you ask nicely.
On my last day, I had lunch at Cafe ZuZu. Yes, I spent a lot of time at this cafe. I did nibble on some things the evening before but I don’t have any photos. The spaghetti squash and ahi tuna sliders were popular.
For lunch, I got a Reuben as I love pastrami. It didn’t have enough sauerkraut for me and I could have used a little more zing in my cole slaw but overall it wasn’t a bad sammie.
After eating at this spot for three days, I can honestly recommend it if you’re staying at the hotel. The servers were all very nice and helpful.
