Beverly Hills: Mulberry Street Pizzaria
A few years ago I heard about Mulberry Street Pizzaria. I heard it had just opened. Or maybe it was another location opened. As it turns out, it was probably the later because I stumbled into a pizzaria that looks like it’s been around for a while [edit- it’s been open a little over 20 years]. There were mementos and photographs everywhere. I like these kinds of places. I grabbed a couple of slices for lunch though I was tempted by the lasagna special. Next time– I had to find out what the pizza was like.
The menu had a lot of choices and I settled on the first two things that caught my eye. I got the chicken parmesan and the BBQ chicken. I realized belatedly I got two slices with chicken. Really, I’m a simple pizza lover– I like either sausage or maybe a sauceless white pizza occasionally. Sometimes I go for mushroom but I didn’t see that available by the slice. They do have a white pizza though.
I tried the chicken parm first. It’s a huge slice. I wondered if I should have gotten one slice and a salad. But I (wo)manfully got through most of both slices (if you’re trying to do the fractions, you won’t need a calculator to figure out I didn’t finish all the slices– unless you count just leaving the crust, then we’re A-OK).
Eventually I got the slice down to a manageable size so I could fold it in half like a pizza sandwich. Maybe pizza gyro.
The BBQ Chicken was crispier. I really liked the crunch on it. But I generally liked the chicken parm better. I still haven’t figured out what made it parm. Or for that matter how different it was from the BBQ Chicken (which had a tangy sweet sauce). There’s also rigatoni and lasagna pizza by the slice. I am very intrigued by these options. Is there actual pasta on the slices? Like the mac and cheese pizza I had in Seattle?
I’ll find out next time.
