Glendale: Getting Our Mai Tais on at Damon’s Steak House
Damon’s fun tiki decor beckons you closer for a look. I’ve been years ago but can’t remember what I actually ate- probably some seafood knowing myself. I do remember the mai tais and had always meant to pull up a barstool at the bar. I decided it’d be fun to go before a concert at the Alex Theatre. Unfortunately, the wait was too much and so we just got drinks at the bar.
I do wonder with the recent closing of Bahooka’s how the tiki bars around town are doing. Perhaps I better make my rounds to Tiki Ti and visit the tiki bars I’ve never been to before in the Valley (Tiki No and Tonga Hut).
Was I going to for a Mai Tai or their other famous drink, the Chi Chi? And if you didn’t feel like it, they do have a long list of other tiki cocktails. But all the regulars at the bar will tell you to get a Mai Tai or Chi Chi. I later saw the bartender drinking something blue so maybe there’s a Blue Curacao drink they love as well.
Well, of course we got both. The Mai Tai is not sweet which is great for someone like me. The Chi Chi is basically a rummy coconut drink. It’s a bit sweeter but not horrifically so. In fact, I do approve of these drinks. Sometimes tiki drinks can be a bit much after one or two. I now know why the wait was so long, people can keep drinking these with no qualms.
