Culver City: New Spring Cocktails at Corner Door
Before dinner at A-Frame, I met up with a friend at Corner Door. There one of the Minty’s 2012 Hot Bartender nominees, Beau Du Bois was manning the bar.
The cocktails list was about to change over but I got a sneak peak at the new Spring list via the drinks specials on the board. One of the new ones I tried was the Last Night In Town (Mezcal, Aperol, Maraschino, mole bitters). It was just the way I wanted to start my evening- strong and boozey. The perfectly balanced cocktail had layers of smoke, sweetness a tinge of mystery from the mole bitters.
I wasn’t planning on eating but I can’t resist fried chicken. One of these days I’m really going to have a full meal here.
Old Havana Mistress isn’t a new cocktail for Corner Door but it is new to me. I had mostly clear cocktails the last time I was in. Old Havana Mistress (aged rum, dry vermouth, dry curacao, PX sherry) was really nice. I liked the use of dry vermouth and the dry curacao to temper the sweetness of aged rum. I also really appreciated the slight tang of the sherry.
But our favorite of the night turned out to be Grandma’s Pack of Cigarettes (rye, Punt e Mes, creme de cacao, coffee chili bitters). Beau is using the Tempus Fugit creme de cacao (I must get this stuff) which adds a nice richness to the cocktail. I know the Spring list is here but I really hope this drink makes its way back come Fall.
Fun cocktails with great names. I’ll be back soon to check out the rest of the Spring list.
