Seattle: Foie Gras & Cocktails at Coterie Room
One of the places I wanted to go back to when I was in Seattle was The Coterie Room. When I first visited years ago, they had just opened and I had promised myself I would try their food. I was so happy to find they had foie gras. Being from a foie gras banned state, it’s always a treat when I see it on menus. The bartender later said he could always tell when people are from California because they end up ordering multiple orders of the torchon. I restrained myself and had just one portion.
The first drink that called out to me was the Edgewood. I love all those components but I was intrigued by the idea of Benedictine with Barolo Chinato and the Creole shrub. Would it be too tart? No, actually it was perfect and a nice drink to start my off my 4 nights in Seattle.

I’ve been trying to eat more beans because they’re so healthy but I tend not to focus on them. Perhaps my subconscious mind ordered Corona bean salad. It turned out to be a nice appetizer. Of course having sausage and pickled ramps also helped.
I asked the bartender for a cocktail to go with my burger and we riffed on ideas until he thought of his sherry cocktail he’s been working on. It turned out to be great. I also told him about the popular “White” Negronis I’ve been seeing on cocktail lists in LA. He made one and I really liked it with Gin and Gran Classico. We still went with sweet vermouth.
The Coterie burger was just what I wanted after a long travel day. I usually try to limit my fries/potato intake but I must have eaten all of them as well. The burger was cooked perfectly.
The Coterie Room is still a beautiful bar after 2 years and I wish more people would visit. The food is great and the booze selection is stellar. Give some love to this spot, Seattle.(206) 956-8000 © The Minty 2013
