DTLA: Late Nights at The Original Pantry

Ham and cheese omlette

Ham and cheese omlette

What would the world do without late-night eats at the Original Pantry in Downtown Los Angeles after a night of bar hopping? Most nights a few tacos will do but sometimes a girl wants an omelette or a burger. Actually, this night, I wanted a patty melt which our server at the Pantry said is very much like their Pantry Burger. I let my friend take the hit on that one and I settled for a ham and cheese omelette which oddly came with cole slaw.

Once we ordered a side of thousand island dressing for the burger, it was like a patty melt except maybe I’d add grilled onions to it next time.

My ham and cheese omelette hit the spot but it’ll probably be a while before I need a 24-hour diner again. I think I’m still full and it’s been weeks. There’s a reason why this place hasn’t closed its doors since the 1920s. It’s a beloved spot.
