New Burgers at Umami
The Springbird
Umami has launched new seasonal menu items including a turkey burger with kale called the Springbird and a delicious avocado and egg toast.
And as part of their Artist Series, Umami is offering a Jose Andres burger. The pork and cured ham patty burger features piquillo pepper confit, caramelized onion and Manchego cheese. A $1 for every Jose Andres burger purchased goes towards World Central Kitchen, a non-profit started by Jose Andres to find solutions for hunger and poverty.
In addition to the Jose Andres burger, 3 tapas will be offered as well. At $2 a pop, why wouldn’t you order all of them? Choose from patatas bravas, ham and date pintxos and green olives.
avocado toast
On my last visit, I tried the Springbird and avocado toast. I really enjoyed the addition of kale to the burger. It kept the patty moist which can sometimes be problematic with turkey burgers. The avocado toast is simple but so well executed. This would be a great brunch item.
smashed potatoes
We opted to get smashed potatoes which were so good. I have mad love for the Umami tots but I wouldn’t kick these potatoes to the curb.
burger poutine
For those who like to go bun-less, try a burger on top of fries for a take on poutine. My friend described her decadent meal as “the best way to perk up your day if it’s been a bad one.”
fried pickles
While we enjoyed the fried pickles, I think I still prefer pickle chips over spears for easier snackability. However, these were amazingly crisp still which is key when you’re a crunch addict.
ice cream by Coolhaus
Umami recently changed their ice cream to Coolhaus offerings. You can get scoops or one of their famous ice cream sandwiches. With the hot weather, I liked the lighter flavors but double chocolate is pretty dreamy.

I went to the Downtown Los Angeles location but the seasonal menu including the Jose Andres burger is available at all full-service Umami outlets.
