Pasadena: Little Sheep Hot Pot Boils Up Good Times
It seems like I eat hot pot a lot but the reality is, I don’t nearly eat it as much as I would like to. I recently found myself with a terrible cough/cold that wouldn’t go away. I was dosing myself with all kinds of soup. So naturally, hot pot seemed like it’d be a good solution. I have been to the Little Sheep in San Gabriel before but wanted to check out the new Pasadena location. It’s not to be confused with Hot Pot Hot Pot which was formerly known as Little Fat Sheep.
Little Sheep allows you to customize your soup. We opted for the duo broths, keeping one mild and the other “barely spicy.”
Although I knew better, we still ordered a couple of appetizers to munch on while we waited for our soup to boil. I really enjoyed the smashed cucumber salad. The freshness of the vinegar marinade was a great palate cleanser in between meaty bites.
We were disappointed by the lamb dumplings. I think these would have been better pan fried.
My friend isn’t much of a meat eater so I got her shrimp while I tackled on the beef and pork. It turned out though her favorites besides the shrimp was the tendon I also threw in the order.
Like tofu, I reasoned a white fish would pick up the flavors of the broth very well. I was right and this was a fave.
Besides all the meat, we did get plenty of mushrooms, veggies and tofu. I may have over-ordered the greens going for watercress and spinach. We also ordered noodles as well. I’m just glad I didn’t ask for rice. I’m so happy we took our leftovers.
Little Sheep is a welcome addition to Old Town Pasadena.
