Costa Mesa: Happy Hour at the Wyndham Hotel’s Silver Trumpet

Manhattan

Manhattan

I was down in Orange County for a show and stopped by The Silver Trumpet at the Wyndham Hotel in Costa Mesa for happy hour.

The drinks are reduced down to $8 which is fine deal. I started out with the Manhattan which was listed with rye but the bartender made it with bourbon without asking me. This is okay with me though I prefer my cocktails with rye and bourbon for sipping neat. I also would have preferred if the bartender had checked in with me before subbing a different booze.

post-renovation

Years ago, I would stop at the Wyndham before a show at the Performing Arts Center for a bite. They had closed for a while for renovation. The entrance is now immediately apparent. It’s definitely more cozy while the dining area feels more separated from the bar.

For your inner wild child or if you have an inordinate love for Vegas, the stool covers are pretty trippy.

Silver Trumpet has a pretty good selection of apps reminding me a little of Charlie Palmer across the street. Sadly Charlie Palmer is closing in May so Silver Trumpet may be my new go to spot.

I had the wings that compromised between ranch and bleu cheese dressings by serving ranch and sprinkling bleu cheese on the wings.

My other favorite thing other than wings (and fried chicken) would be tacos. I tried both the beef and pork tacos, preferring the beef just a little bit more.

During happy hour you can choose how many you want but otherwise, I’d go for their 3-tacos deal.

I had high hopes for their Martini because the Manhattan was properly stirred. Sadly this one was shaken. It was fine since I was in a bit of a hurry now rushing off to the show. But next time I’ll have to make sure they stir the Martini.
