Santa Monica: Sexy Atmosphere at Belcampo
Belcampo Santa Monica officially opened its doors in April this year. I finally got over to the Westside this past weekend to check it out. I was expecting it to generally look the same as when I visited last summer for the guest bartender series. However I was happily surprised to see they’ve gone with a sleek look that reminded me vaguely of African safari with an animal head in the entrance foyer, zebra hides on the walks and a dark sexy bar. The butcher shop out front is bright and cheerful however.
I wanted to sit at the bar but it was packed on a Saturday night but luckily we were seated in the dining room right away.
My friend ordered the lamb burger which comes with those wonderful beef tallow fries. Belcampo always does a solid burger. I was eyeing the various tartares but knew it’d be too much food if ordered it.
I ordered the pork sausage. You get a huge loop of sausage! And a ton of mashed potatoes and gravy. I didn’t even think I could eat it all. I loved the fava beans and greens that dotted the mashed potatoes.
I’ll have to come back to check out the cocktails and swing by for brunch. The cocktail program looks great and I’d love to see this space in the light.
