New Orleans: Tacos at Rum House

We got to the Rum House just in time for happy hour. I ordered their famous pina colada right away. It was refreshing on this hot and humid day. We had just gotten done taking the Garden District tour. We saw houses owned by Anne Rice, Nicholas Cage, Sandra Bullock and many others. I also saw Commander’s Palace but knew we would need reservations so we walked over to Magazine Street. I enjoyed the street of antiques and fun shops. Good thing happy hour gave us time to rest and catch up. My friend ordered the rum punch and considered another one but we cut our happy hour short to get back to the French Quarter for our dinner reservation.

Knowing we were going to eat dinner soon, I decided to get some tacos as a light snack. The Rum House does a lot of cool, fusion-y tacos that have a Caribbean vibe. I briefly thought about a salad… or a plate of ribs but decided tacos was the better choice.

I got the seared scallops, pork mole and creole ribs tacos. My favorite was the scallops with the crispy leeks. The scallops were simply seared and just shy of fully cooked which is how I like them. I also liked the creole ribs. I also loved the smothered greens I got. Smothered is my new favorite way of eating greens.
