New Orleans: Pressed Muffuletta at The Grocery

We got to the Garden District a little early for our tour so we asked a local where to get something to eat. Getting a sandwich at a nearby shop sounded good to me. The Grocery had all sorts of sandwiches though I opted for a pressed muffuletta. Later I thought I should have gotten something else (y’know the hamburger po boy sounded good to me) but I was determined to keep eating NOLA-style. I also got chicken and sausage gumbo for good measure. This turned out to be my favorite gumbo of the week. True, it wasn’t too thick but it had a lot of flavor.

The muffuletta is pressed and did fall apart a bit (olive spread for the win!) but I didn’t mind. I had gotten a half sized one and I was glad because I filled up on that gumbo. I couldn’t resist getting Zapps chips even though I can get those in LA but there is something cool about the variety of flavors they have in NOLA.

If I lived in the neighborhood, I would have a good time going through the menu. The pressed sausage or chicken pesto sandwiches sounded good. The Avenue special also sounded good (chicken salad, bacon, avocado, swiss!). They also have po boys and other classic sandwiches.
