Kansas City: Let’s Go Get KCMO BBQ at Char Bar
On my very last day in Kansas City, I finally had Kansas City BBQ. All week long, I wondered when I was finally going to have burnt ends. I ended up at Char Bar, my friend’s local favorite. We had just hit up the farmers market where we sampled our way through the prepared foods but I was determined to get some ‘cue. Sign me up for the Holy Trinity; ribs, brisket and burnt ends. However, we decided we wanted pulled pork instead of brisket and luckily for us, Char Bar agreed to the substitution.
I did feel perhaps I should have gone to a grubbier spot but since I was heading back to LA in a few hours, I got a jumpstart on the LA lifestyle and ordered the kale salad as a side. True, the salad came covered in delicious cheese but it was still a kale salad.
I liked the burnt ends but my favorite were the ribs. I’m really just a baby back ribs sort of girl. Give me a rack and I’m happy. The pulled pork was also very tender.
To go with my BBQ, I opted for some whiskey in the form of a cocktail. The Showgirl offered a sweet edge as I may have gone a little overboard with trying all the different (and increasingly spicy) sauces.
Showgirl – Buffalo Trace bourbon, mezcal, peach nectar, honey, orange bitters
