East Hollywood: Late Night Food at Hollywood Thai

Is it possible to have too much Thai food in one day? I didn’t think so. I headed over to Hollywood Thai after checking out Jumbo’s Clown Room (for the first time!). It sounded good even though I had a noodles-tastic meal earlier in the night at Luv2Eat.

I have to confess something. I love angel wings. Those monstrous wings that aren’t even wings anymore after a Thai kitchen gets through with them. They’ve been deboned, stuffed with meat and noodles, breaded and fried. They’re reassembled and vaguely look like wings from a dinosaur. Or maybe an ostrich. Hollywood Thai’s version was exactly what I wanted after a few whiskey sodas next door.

My friend got the crab noodles which looked like a crab lover’s delight. Her egg noodles got topped with a huge amount of crab. She did also add Chinese broccoli to the mix.

I reverted back to my noodle soup-loving ways and got yen ta fo, Thailand’s answer to pink soup. The umami-rich shrimp paste soup was very interesting to me. I loved picking through the fried wontons, coagulated blood cubes, edible fungus and the more familiar seafood- shrimp and squid. My friend declared she wasn’t too sure about the soup. It is, uh, funky. But in a good way.

I also got an order of pineapple fried rice to eat the next day because I was declaring a Thai Food Day Weekend. Actually, it became a three-day weekend because I was eating my leftovers for at least a couple more meals. Gotta love a broth that keeps on giving and endless fried rice.
