SGV: Burritos La Palma in El Monte
I must have driven by Burritos La Palma a zillion times but it took a few friends checking out the place to motivate me to try it out. Located on Peck Road in El Monte, this small shop is easily passed by but don’t because they have a delightful specialty- cheese, sauce covered burritos a la American enchiladas.
Sure, you can order them plain and you’ll need two or three of the skinny burritos to fill you up or do what I did and get the plato especial, two burritos that came with beans and salad. The burritos as mentioned are baked with a mild cheese and covered with green salsa. They’re stuffed with (beef) birria and the soft stewed meat is the epitome of pleasure- cheese, sauce, meat.
If you go on weekdays, you can try other meats but it’s strictly birria only on the weekends.
We got there right as it opened so we got a seat but quickly the place was swarming with families and friends putting together the small tables for their large parties.
My friend had the flautas which were decent. I much preferred the burritos. And she tells me she feels the same about the burritos over the quesadilla. So go with the namesake burritos and you can’t go wrong.
