DTLA: New Drinks at Honeycut for Fall/Winter 2016

Side Real and Proper Motion

Side Real and Proper Motion

Honeycut recently rolled out a new drinks menu featuring their tiki-space cocktails along with new draft cocktails in the disco room. After a massive meaty dinner at Oreno, some cocktails sounded like a sound plan.

I got the Sidereal while  my friend had the Proper Motion. She loved the Galliano tiki mug it came in. Her tiki inspired drink was very subtle and complex and not at all like the over sugary tiki drinks you might find elsewhere. I really liked my Sidereal. I’ve got a special fondness for sherry (who doesn’t if they’re a cocktailian) and I thought it worked so well with the other flavors including Thai basil and strawberry.

Sidereal – Flor de Cana 7 year rum, Clement Canne Blue rhum, East India solera sherry, absinthe, Thai basil, strawberry, lime, coconut

Proper Motion   ghee-washed cognac-armagnac, Galliano Ristretto coffee liqueur, Giffard banana liqueur, Giffard vanilla liqueur, pineapple, lime

Normal Fault and Steepest Ascent

We couldn’t resist another pair of drinks before heading over to dance on the disco side of Honeycut. We shared the drinks since I would have ordered either one of the whiskey offerings. I enjoyed Normal Fault which was like an old fashioned. While the Steepest Ascent could be compared to a whiskey sour but no, not really. It was a drink that I’d easily drink during the day, on a patio, or at brunch. Or hell, at 7 a.m. Hey, it has honey and oats! It’s a breakfast drink.

Normal Fault – Famous Grouse Scotch whisky, Teeling Irish Whiskey, peat, cedar, cinnamon

Steepest Ascent – apricot and almond infused Evan Williams bourbon, oat honey, lemon

Hey! What's Up! Hello! and Bajallelujah

Hey! What’s Up! Hello! and Bajallelujah

As mentioned, there are new drinks on tap in the disco. My friend had the tongue twister of a name, Bajallelujah. Say that five times fast. I dare you. I had the Hey! What’s up! Hello! (yes, all three greetings are its name).

Bajallelujah – tequila, guava, litchi (lychee), lime, gentian soda

My drink was super refreshing and will get you going on the dance floor. It must be the sherry.

Hey! What’s Up! Hello! – Remy Martin cognac, sherry, blackberry, cherry, lemon cordial
