Cochon 555 Returns to Santa Monica This Sunday, March 12th

I was so bummed out last year when I missed one of my favorite events, Cochon 555, since I was out of town. But I marked my calendar this year and Cochon 555 is coming back this Sunday to the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica on March 12.
The competition features 5 chefs, 5 winemakers, 5 bartenders and 5 sommeliers in a friendly afternoon competition. This year’s chefs include Union’s Bruce Kalman, Bourbon Steak Los Angeles’ Kyle Johnson, Estrella’s Dakota Weiss, Cast’s Larry Monaco and Jonathan Granada from Otium.
Alex Jermsek from Gwen will run the butcher shop pop-up. I’m really excited to see a ramen pop-up as well this year and a dessert bar.

Each of the 5 chefs have been given a heritage pig and they make various bites with it. Guest are invited to vote for their favorite bite. Cochon 555 travels the country and winners from each of the cities will eventually compete to be the King of Porc. But who will be the Prince (or Princess!) of Porc?

You can’t have all that porcine goodness without drinks! There’ll be plenty of wine, mixed drinks as well as tastings of mezcal, beer and cider. One year I snagged some amazing bacon to go with my wine tasting.

Five barkeeps will compete to be the Punch King of the day.

In addition to food from the five chefs, there are stations of cured meats, cheese and an ice cream social. Did someone also say a La Brea Bakery bread pop-up? It’s not all pork here.
DTLA Cheese
There’s cheese from DTLA Cheese as well as Farmstead Cheese Bar.
who’ll be crowned the Prince of Porc in Los Angeles?
There are three ticket options this year. General admission is $125 a ticket and gets you in from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The VIP ticket is only $75 more and gets you in one hour earlier. Or if you want to glory in an all night pork fest, go for the $400 ticket that includes dinner afterwards.
