Santa Barbara: Hot Chicken Bao and Drinks at Sama Sama

hot chicken bao
After bar hopping along State Street in Santa Barbara, we checked out Sama Sama Kitchen for a snack and nightcap. I wasn’t too happy about our sushi dinner earlier in the evening so I was glad to have a couple of bites of the hot chicken bao and crispy rice salad.
When I left for SB, I had a list of places and some recommendations for each spot. The hot chicken bao was an absolute winner and great suggestion. Hot chicken may be super trendy as well as baos but this bun/ sandwich worked. The chicken wasn’t too dry and had enough heat. The bun was slightly sweet and wasn’t dried out at all.

crispy rice salad
We loved the crispy rice salad. With beef sausage, crispy herbs and a perfect fried egg, it was just enough carbs to soak up all the booze.

Summer Fashioned
I actually thought the Summer Fashioned could work well into fall with the addition of apple brandy. Salt has become one of those trendy ingredients in cocktails. It works here in the Summer Fashioned.
Summer Fashioned – rye whiskey, apple brandy, salt, bitters
I thought about returning for a proper meal but we didn’t have time. Next time!
