DTLA: First Look at Kasih Indonesian in Little Tokyo

Chips and dips

Kasih, the new Indonesian restaurant, is now open in Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. Kasih means love in Indonesian.

I was invited to an opening party where the neighbors had been invited as well. Kasih is on the ground level of the new AVA building in Little Tokyo on the corner of Second and Los Angeles streets.

Vodka! Mezcal! Bourbon!

There were three mixed drinks on offer that night. My favorite was the mezcal one, the Lady Bird, which was garnished with a bird chile. I found the bourbon Tambling a bit two sweet. My friend really enjoyed the vodka-based Gili.

Tambling – bourbon, raspberry liqueur, black lemongrass tea, lemon

The Gili – vodka, mango tamarind syrup, simple syrup, lime

Lady Bird– mezcal, tangerine shrub, lemon

Babi Guling – pork

There were many salads including the gado gado, which has hardboiled eggs and peanut dressing. I also tried the asinan kelapa which was vegan. This was like a slaw with red cabbage and carrots. I also loved the cute chips with plenty of different dips to choose from (shown above). We also tried a variety of meats including chicken skewers, beef short ribs, fish in banana leaves and this star pork roast, the babi guling. It’s like Indonesian porchetta.

I’m looking forward to having a full dinner here in the beautiful space.
