Chicago: Lunch at Barrio

tacos

For my last lunch in Chicago, I hit up Barrio.

Our server was very nice and went through the menu with us.

chilled corn and avocado soup

For a starter, I had the chilled corn and avocado soup. I liked the crab in it and was happy to see it poured at the table.

I got the crispy mahi mahi tacos but now I wondered if I should have gotten them grilled. The fist was just a little bit over cooked. Others had fish salad which was enjoyed. Another had the octopus tacos which were approved of and the fourth in our party had chicken tacos which she didn’t really care for. Overall, the winner was the cornbread we all shared in the beginning with the fine sprinkling of coconut.

Barrio is an interesting modern Latin restaurant with just a few Asian touches like the guacamole with dragonfruit. If I lived in Chicago, I’d try the turkey pibil sandwich next time.
