The Minty’s Blog Anniversary and Repeal Day Party Recap
On December 5, Repeal Day, this year, I had a party for the anniversary of The Minty. The blog turned 9 this year! It’s hard to believe I’ve been writing about Los Angeles’ restaurants and bars for nine years! And of course, I’ve traveled and written about places around the world now. I’m always in pursuit of a good drink.
I hadn’t had a party for the blog in many years and perhaps it was really ambitious to have it on Repeal Day. I was competing with lots of bars around town. But I just figured everyone would make it a bar crawl night.
As it turned out, it was raining very hard that night which always puts a damper on festivities. But I was surprised when everyone came! All 50+ of you! I felt the love and I love you all back!
I held the party at Peking Tavern in Downtown Los Angeles, my fave DTLA Chinese spot. I just love their noodles and dumplings.
With the help of boozy friends, we created an elegant and diverse menu ranging from a martini, highball and negroni variation. Plus we had boiler makers for those who wanted a beer and shot.
Here’s the menu:
Negroni: Los Vecinos Mezcal, Peychaud’s Aperitivo, vermouth
Highball: Toki Japanese Whisky, Amaro Angeleno, East Imperial soda
Martini: Volstead Vodka, Dirty Sue olive juice, Dirty Sue olives or onions
Boilermaker: With any beer, get a shot of Pizcadores Sotol or Centenario Rum
And thanks to the gift bag sponsors:
Travis Hasse Cow Pie Liqueur
Heaven Hill – Elijah Craig & Larceny Bourbon
Lamb Weston – Grown in Idaho Potato Products
The gift bags were a hit! They were the gifts that just kept on giving!
Happy 9 years to the blog and to all the friends I’ve made. It’s been exciting and I can’t wait to see what the new year has in store!
