Woodland Hills: Sushi and Sake at Tomoya Izakaya

sushi combo
I was in the Valley one night and we went to Tomoya for sushi. It’s a neighborhood favorite and very busy. If you make reservations, it’s best to call as their form online doesn’t work apparently.
Whenever I go to a new spot, I tend to try a combo to see if I like their sushi. I will order more if I like anything in particular.
This combo comes with 10 pieces of nigiri and a 6-piece spicy tuna roll (you could also choose a California roll). It’s not a bad deal and I found myself liking the salmon the best. The spicy tuna could have been spicier but I’m glad it was too spicy at the same time. I do like eating my food without crying.

seaweed salad
I also ordered a seaweed salad which I thought I could share with the table. The server advised it was a small salad. It was perhaps big enough to share with one or two others and not our entire party.
Tomoya had a huge rolls list so if you’re into crazy sushi rolls, this may be a good spot for you.

sake
We also had a bottle of sake for the table. I’ve seen this brand Kikusui at stores before and it’s a good mid-priced sake.
Overall I can see why they’re so busy but unless I’m in the area, I wouldn’t seek this out again for sushi. I might try the cooked food though from the izakaya menu. Ramen and fried rice seemed popular with the restaurant patrons.
