steak picado

I loved everything about this place. The art. The tables with the Korean-esque call buttons. The service. The free warm chips and dip, the chicken soup and my meal. I did wish the steak pieces were bigger but that’s about it. A great place across from the LATC and a nice dinner before Dementia, the show we saw.

egg rolls at Pho Minh

pho dac biet aka the #2

Carina of the Uncouth Gourmands told me how much she wanted to try the pho shops in South El Monte so we met up at Pho Minh, a pho place I ranked as one of my favorites during my Pho show down with the Noodles Partner. We had tried 5 shops and Pho Minh was obviously superior in broth.

The egg rolls were as good as I remembered but the broth for the pho wasn’t quite as deeply flavored as I remembered. I also remembered thinking the broth was darker. It was still wonderful and you betcha I ate that entire bowl but maybe it’s time for another pho show down, fo’ sho.

dolsot bibimbap

seafood soon dobu

bulgogi

We celebrated Mother’s Day early and my mother decided she wanted to try Korean food. She’s never really had it before and with her recent conversion to vegetarianism, I thought she would like all the side dishes (banchan). She did! We got her the bibimbap (which she had me eat the bulgogi) but you won’t find her putting any hot sauce into the bowl.

As for the tofu soup, it was surprisingly pretty good for a Korean place in the middle of a Chinese dominated area. Sure, I’ve had better in K-town but I would actually come back to Ko Hyang Tofu House.
