French (Green Bean) Fries: 38 Degrees
I’ve been spotting random “fries” on menus lately. Forget potatoes and even sweet potatoes, let’s make green bean fries the next It fry!
Pros:
They’re already conveniently in a french fry shape.
They’re “healthier” than potato fries.
They make a good sauce vehicle.
Cons:
They’re still fried.
Well, I can’t think of another con so let’s roll with it. The above was my internal monologue as to why we ordered more food after a recent huge meal at the new Boiling Crab.
So how did they taste? Well, this is where all the comparison stops. They are NOT french fries but more like tempura veggies, ‘cept the batter was thicker and heavier. You still got the crunch of the green bean but in the end, I realized I rather eat french fries and fresh, unadorned green beans.
I thought 38 Degrees was pretty cool though. And their beer selection did partially remind me how I should get a craft beer crawl going.
