Contest: Win a Sony Cybershot WX9!
Last month, I wrote a series of posts about Sony’s newest Cybershot point and shoot camera, the WX9. I can give you the specs but if you’re like me, you probably want to play with it immediately. Within minutes, I was running around the Oceanside Farmers’ Market with Sony’s WX9. I took some pretty fantastic pictures, instantly loving the defocus mode. I thought it was pretty neat you can even control how fuzzy you want the defocus to be. I tried out the panoramic mode and even the video. Then we were out to the Sony Foodie Lunch at the Beach. It was my first time using the WX9 to photograph food in a natural light setting. The images were great. The true test, however, was sitting down to the Sony Foodie Dinner at Sony Headquarters in San Diego.
Now Sony has given me a camera to give away. To enter the contest to win a camera of your very own, leave a comment what features you would like to play with the most. Need some ideas? Check out Wayfaring Wanderer’s post about the rad features. And email me 5 pictures to theminty.com@ gmail dot com depicting emotions. Joyous from food? Angry at your food baby? Let’s see how creative you are! The photos must be yours and by submitting them, the photos may be displayed/posted when I announce the winner.
Some of my fellow Sony Foodies will be helping me judge the contest. This contest will be open from May 17 to May 31 (11:59 p.m. PST). I will announce the winner on June 10, 2011.
Good luck!

Hello?! *pinching myself* Is this real life?? The last of my 3 canons just bit the dust (RIP), so this opportunity is like a dream come true! :oD
The feature I would most love is the Defocus mode. I used to have a DSLR and after falling on some difficult times I had to reluctantly find it a new home. I did some research and found a few hybrid (middle lines between DSLRs and PS cameras) that had this feature, but they are still quite costly. Until reading your post and seeing your pictures, I would not have believed a point and shoot could even have this capability!
Another feature I would find myself using very often would be the full HD video. I am known within my circle of friends as the “asian camera girl.” :oP They never bring their camera because they always rely on the fact that I do not leave the house without mine. With that said, there are times when pictures cannot capture the full moment. This is when I use the video option to secretly record a friend doing a silly dance or remember my beautiful cousin walking down the aisle on her wedding day.
The third feature I know I would get a lot of use from is superior auto mode (the gourmet mode looks awesome!). I loathe fumbling through settings~ ISO here, White balance there, Action mode this, Flash off, ugh what a pain! The ability that the camera can automatically sense the correct auto settings would be such a time saver and I would no longer be afraid that I’ve missed the shot. And of course, being the food lover that I am, pictures of amazingly plated dishes, colorful cocktails, or architecturally designed desserts are my passion pour la vie. The concerns of low light or a stark white plate will be worries of the past with this new camera! :o)

Firstly, I wanted to say that this is an awesome contest! Thanks for giving us the opportunity to try to win!
The main feature I would love to play with is the Defocus mode. I had a DSLR for a while, and the Defocus capabilities on that was what made it such a great camera. As far as I know, this is one of the first digital cameras to offer this, and it would be awesome to have the capability in a pocket-sized camera!
Another big interest of mine in this camera is the full 1080HD recording capabilities. I have been looking around for a video recorder that records that quality, and then this opportunity presented itself! Perfect timing? 🙂
Being able to shoot full 1080 from a digital camera is an amazing capability, and it would help preserve so many memories! (In great quality!)
Another feature, that I wasn’t aware was possible before, is the 3D! I didn’t even know you could do that with a digital camera, so it would be an awesome feature to play around with, and it would provide so many opportunities for some great shots!
Lastly, HDR. I grew so tired of having to take 3 different pictures with three different ISO’s, and then having a program to merge them for me. Being able to shoot HDR from a digital camera is almost heaven! 🙂

Question: do the 5 pictures have to be food-related emotions?

I just bought this camera and Love, Love, Love it.. I would love to win one for my sister. She just lost her camera and is using an old one to take pictures of her kids. She loved the portrait mode, and low light abilities, as well as the Motion mode.
I love the auto focusing on it, for times when ya just want to point and shoot and not worry about settings. It takes great pictures and videos !!!

I saw a demo of this and it looks pretty fantastic. I would actualy most be interested in the video functions. I have had a Sony Camcorder (Standard DV) for 10 years and it’s been amazing, but I’d be happy to upgrade!

The panoramic mode to use on my trip to Colorado this summer. It would be a nice way to get mountain ranges in one pic.

It’s been forever since I’ve had a true compact camera, and this model is making me rethink that maybe I do need one. 😉 Would love to play with the defocus and soft skin modes!

I’ve been a die hard film photographer for over 30 years. I would LOVE a good digital camera to enhance my existing capabilities!! Digital gives “instant gratification” and saves so much money by avoiding the cost of film and developing/proofing. My facebook page is slowly but surely building up photos I’ve taken with my medium format cameras as well as a Canon Elph that my daughter gifted me!!

With this camera, there is almost no excuse why you would be without a camera… I LOVE my Sony H cameras (H9 & HX1) and can’t wait to get my hands on the HX100 because of the new features Defocus mode, Backlight Correction HDR and the soft skin to save on editing time. But sometimes even that size P&S is a little to big for some outings so this camera would be a great.
I have played a little bit with the food setting on my older Sony’s, but was never happy with the results, but these shots on your site have me now rethinking about that feature or having the defocus as another choice. I’ll embarrass my table mates cause I have to take photos of the food and Facebook them. One of the chefs saw my post and asked me to shoot for a cook book but I turned him down because I didn’t have the patience to get the shots. With these new settings I could go back and ask, Did you start your book yet!!

Full HD 1080/60i – Showing my friends step by step HOW I made my raviolis and bread sticks from scratch would be wayyyy cool! Or maybe just the 3D so I can make it look like hard work and just show off the final product in 3D. That’s a tricky one.

1. size
2. backlit HDR — see photo coming soon 🙂
3. price for features, amazing.
4. 5x zoom at first doesn’t sound like a lot, but with a 16meg image, can crop for what one wants.
5. colors & ease of use
6. What the wife wanted 🙂
7. 3d stuff, fun, but regular images are pretty sweet under nearly every lighting situation I tested.
8. Taking pictures of my adopted son, in challenging lighting, he looks great!
9. food photos with background defocus, amazing!

I am working on an illustrated project, book, multimedia, and the features of this camera are to die for! I need low light, the great color you are getting, ease of use, ease of carrying – lighter than my cell phone! Yes, video would be cool, but it sounds like it would take all the guess work out of the game and let a person get back just to concentrating on the subject – You wonderful pictures make me hungry!
I can see situations where I live where backlit HDR would really help.
Can’t wait to give it a try, because as feature rich as you guys point out it is, I gather it’s also easy to start making great images, right from the camera.
Ask me 😉 after I’ve been shooting for a while, what features really helped…
Gotta question too – 16 megapixels – good for cropping, or do you use a smaller setting for your pictures? Some people I follow say, anything over six is overkill – and noisy, how did the other pictures come out 😉 not just the good ones you’ve shared, and because of it’s size and that interesting Background Defocus, can this become your primary walk around camera? You blog is straight up because of the images, can this deliever the goods?
That’s why I lust to try it out!
Thanks for the blog, and all the tasty treats you and your gang of Sony Foodies are sharing with us, looks delicious indeed!
