DTLA: Cafe Dulce Pop-Up with Hold Up Art
Cafe Dulce pop-up with Hold Up Art opened last month on the corner of 11th and Hope in Downtown Los Angeles. I was walking by and saw something interesting happen in an otherwise warehouse looking building. But suddenly the roll up walls were opened to reveal a brightly painted and decorated coffee bar. The pop-up is in direct competition with a Starbucks across the street. However, people who seek good coffee probably wouldn’t even notice the ‘bux and perhaps people who go there might be persuaded to try something new.
The pop-up plans on at least 6 months with a new roaster and artwork every month. That’s where Hold Up Art comes in. They’ll help curate the art.
The first month’s featured roaster is Stumptown whom I fell in love with in Portland, OR. There’s talk of opening a roasting facility in Downtown. I decided to order a latte though I probably should have asked for the Dulce Latte.
There’s one round table for seating and a couple of chairs off to the side. The barista told me they are planning on food trucks and other festivities through out the summer. Keep up with them on twitter to find out more.
