Pasadena: Fried Chicken at Picnik
Picnik in Pasadena is quite interesting. It shares space with KTCHEN on one side. Zona Rosa and gelato carts can also be found there. Plus, there’s a Punch bar on Thursdays and Fridays. While KTCHEN does breakfast and brunch until 2 p.m., Picnik is open all day until 10 p.m. daily.
Everyone is raving about the housemade sausages from Electric City Butchers but I zeroed in the fried chicken. It was juicy, perfectly fried and my favorite of all the food we ordered. Plus I loved that it came with biscuits and great pickled veggies.
To go with the fried chicken we also ordered corn on the cob and mac and cheese.
Sadly, I’d have to skip these sides next time. They arrived cold and were a bit puzzling. I didn’t really care for the crunchy bits on the corn or the fried bits on top of the mac and cheese.
We order the all beef hot dog and bratwurst. They were a bit on the smaller side but we enjoyed them. I liked the onions and sauerkraut toppings best.
I hope this concept sticks around. This space has been transformed a few times over the years. Old Town Pasadena needs more places for casual grub in a fun environment.
