Brunch on Melrose: Blu Jam Cafe
Discussing where to brunch in Los Angeles can take hours or minutes. There are the favorites and then there are the latest hot spots. Surveying friends, Blu Jam Cafe on Melrose came up over and over again for their French Toast. And yet… we didn’t order French Toast. I’m much more of a savory breakfast fan and lean towards lunch.
The Cobb omlette caught my eye as did the steak and eggs but I decided to try the Cobb to see what that was all about. It is exactly how it sounds- all the ingredients in a Cobb (bacon, chicken, tomato, bleu cheese) as an omelette. I found my omelette a teensy bit dry that a generous serving of salsa couldn’t fix.
Blu Jam was very busy and we waited about 40 minutes for a seat. Neighboring restaurants were completely empty which attested to the popularity of Blu Jam. But it was nowhere as crazy as the wait for Kings Road which is similar quality.
Ever feel like rice for breakfast? How about risotto? The Italian Breakfast features two poached eggs atop of risotto with sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach. It feels super healthy and oh-so-LA on the patio. Especially since it’s gluten-free.
Now where to brunch next weekend?
