Pasadena: 800 Degrees Pizza Now Open
800 Degrees Neopolitan Pizzeria is now open in Pasadena. The Neopolitan style pizza joint allows you to customize to your heart’s content or you can go with their specialties.
Let’s say you want to go DIY. First you start with the basic pizza which they’ll ask you if you want sauce or not. After that very important decision, you move down the line picking out your fave toppings.
I was advised to keep it to just two or three toppings but I went with a whopping four. Ooops.
Once you have your order down, they slide your pizza into their fancy pants oven for a quick bake.
Be sure to check out the sides too. I love pizza with salad (and beer! — 800 Degrees serves beer and wine) so I got a small chopped salad. It was very fresh with tons of cheese.
When have I not ordered meatballs when given the opportunity? The sauce was very fresh. These disappeared quickly from the table.
Plus there are several styles of burrata salad. I went with a classic tomatoes and burrata salad.
After a few minutes, your pizza is done and it’s time to chow down. After I picked sauce, I also agreed to cheese which were nice pieces of sliced mozzarella. I chose marinated artichokes, mushrooms, shrimp and roasted garlic. I didn’t get any additional cheese but I think it would have helped to keep the ingredients together and give the top some crispness. My pizza could have stood just a couple minutes in the oven as my toppings tended to fall off. But then again, I did get four toppings instead of the recommended two or three.
The Pasadena location is beautiful. It’s in the old Louise’s Trattoria space in Old Town Pasadena. The renovation revealed murals that had been covered up. The elegant chandeliers give it a classy feel. Don’t forget to get gelato after! 800 Degrees has a small but nice selection. The pistachio and salted caramel were faves.
